Top Gear Ambassador Project

One might remember a very famous advert from 2003. A gentleman sets about driving his HM Ambassador into a wall, getting an elephant to sit on it and welding through the night to produce his very own approximation of the Peugeot 206 after he sees it in a newspaper ad and falls in love. Later which he proceeds to parade around with a swag.

Somewhere, in the middle of 2017, Peugeot decided to relive this advert. Teaming up with Top Gear UK and Performance PR Ltd., the French brand came up with an idea of actually modifying a HM Ambassador into a Peugeot 208 GTI. Now since Peugeot owns the HM Ambassador brand, this would make a lot of sense, especially since Peugeot plans to re-enter Indian automotive market in 2019.

DYPDC School of Design had the pleasure of receiving this project from Performance PR, London. The challenge was not just about modifying an Ambassador into a Peugeot, but to do so in just the matter of 6 to 8 weeks. Lead by faculty members Prof. KushalJadhav and Prof. Ashish Nar along with couple of students, Mr. ParthDodiya and Mr. SidharthRath as apprentices, DYPDC started this journey of incredible challenges from November, 2017. Expending their time, sweat and sleep, the team worked on this for almost 900 working hours in total. After 8 long, rigorous and testing weeks, the team finally managed to pull this off.
